Though its carefully prepared format may be a touch too pat for some viewers, Conviction is a heartstring-tugger that earns its sentiment through the hard work from Hilary Swank, Sam Rockwell and Minnie Driver. Managing to mostly overcome how safe and conventional it is in style and tone, this fascinating true story packs a surprisingly potent punch, and should be considered an Oscar contended in terms of the two leading roles, and also for the fabulous work by the film’s Make-Up department.
