Last year’s smash hit Paranormal Activity took the horror reigns away from the fiscally disappointing (but surprisingly decent) Saw VI. An intense, creepy take on the overdone “found footage” horror genre, its success critically and commercially ensured the inevitable sequel. Little surprise it is that this pointless sequel is a turgid, manipulatively marketed rehash of the original, leaving viewers in the lurch for most of the runtime,¬†distending the first film’s mystery even further for the sake of turning these films into a franchise.
